Our Story
Eduardo and Eduarda Cosentino, parents of Cosentino Group’s current owners, started their work in quarrying and carried out the basic processing of marbles in Macael, a municipality of the province of Almería (Spain), famous for marble production.
Armed with the experience in the marble sector, the second generation Cosentino created Mármoles Cosentino, SA, in 1979, which was initially staffed by 17 people. Mármoles Cosentino, SA, was the brainchild of brothers Francisco and Eduardo Martínez-Cosentino. They were later joined by their third brother, José Martinez-Cosentino.
By the time the third brother joined Mármoles Cosentino, SA, they already had one small warehouse based in Barcelona that was managed by Eduardo and was stocked with marble. Then, the 1980s saw the expansion of the company’s commercial activities into its neighbouring markets, Spain and Europe. In the same decade, the company began its activities in international markets.
However, the Martinez-Cosentino brothers later came to realise that their activities could not be reduced to simply extracting and processing “Blanco Macael” or “white Macael.” This led to the adoption of a diversification strategy and international expansion through the investment in research and innovation.
As a result of the company’s research and development activities, the company began the manufacture of Silestone® in 1990, its flagship product. Five years later, Silestone® became a huge success in the sector of kitchen worktops.
The company’s commitment to R&D gave birth to other leading materials, which triumphed in their respective sectors. ECO by Cosentino®, for example, is a product created from recycled materials. SENSA® is the company’s unique line of granite with exclusive anti-stain protection. The more recent Dekton® is the company’s innovative approach to ultra-compact surface aiming to revolutionise the international world of architecture and design.
The company’s determination to boost its international presence is driven by a strong commitment to creating innovative materials and offering high-value solutions in architecture and design.
